Elegant Quail are another desert quail similar to a Valley, Gambel's, or a Scaled Quail. They have the same traits being kind of jittery and nervous. If their pen is set up right they can tame down a lot. The reason why they're so much more expensive than the others is because they lay a lot less eggs and they're a bit more delicate and tricky to raise. They have to be bred in pairs, If you try colonies or trios they'll kill each other til there's just one pair or one bird left standing. They're prone to frostbite on their feet when it hits the teens and single digits and below. In this climate it gets to be those temps. I keep them on a solid plywood floor with a few inches of pine shavings for warmth. They do fine. Don't keep them on a wire bottom in this climate. Incubation is 22 days. Close to dry or even a dry hatch in humid areas.
