Mearns Quail are native to Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. They're totally different from all of the other quail in a lot of ways. I raise them pretty much the same as I do with the other 2 breeds. One thing you should do is pad your ceilings in the pens with carpet foam. When they get startled they fly straight up really hard. They can break their necks or scalp their heads right to the skull if they hit a wood or wire ceiling. They can actually become quite tame and can make great pets. I pair-breed mine for the best egg production. Some breeders colony-breed but get a lot of fighting, which either slows down the egg production, or stops it altogether. They lay a thin shelled egg compared to other quail. Incubation is 25 days with very low humidity in your incubator.
